Expense tab

The Expense tab is used to review and adjust the current year projection and next year’s budget for expenses and paid hours. It also displays calculated values from other budget tabs, including paid hours, salaries, and detail accounts. The individual expense accounts related to each budget type are summarized on the Summary tab.

This table describes the account sections in the Expense tab and the required BudgetType values in the ACCT dimension.

Salaries Salaries
  • Includes salary and contract labor accounts. Most salary values are calculated on the JobCode, Staffing, or Employee tabs and summarized here using the Labor calculation method.
  • Benefits Benefits

    Includes all benefit-related accounts that are budgeted at the department level.

    FICA is calculated on the Labor tabs at the JobCode level. If FICA is not included in the department budget, use the Monthly FICA by Dept report to calculate the total and add it to the Benefits budget.

    Supplies Supplies Includes all medical and other supply expense accounts. These accounts are typically budgeted using a rate per unit with the Variable calculation method.
    Other Expenses OtherExp

    Includes all other expenses.

  • Calculation methods are: Fixed, Detail, Depreciation, or GlobalExpense.
  • Paid Hours PaidHours Includes all labor and contract labor hour accounts. Enter hours on the JobCode, Staffing, or Employee tabs. The Hours calculation method summarized total paid hours.
    Purchased Services PurchSvcs Includes all purchased service expense accounts, such as contracted or outsourced services. Calculation methods are: Fixed, Detail, Depreciation, or GlobalExpense.
    Professional Fees ProFees Includes all professional fee expense accounts, such as consulting, legal, or audit services.Calculation methods are: Fixed, Detail, Depreciation, or GlobalExpense.
    Drug Expense Drugs

    Includes all drug-related expense accounts. These accounts are typically budgeted using a rate per unit with the Variable calculation method.

    Depreciation Depreciation Includes all depreciation expense accounts. Calculation methods are: Fixed, Detail, Depreciation, or GlobalExpense.
    Interest Interest

    Includes all interest expense accounts.

    Calculation methods are: Fixed, Detail, Depreciation, or GlobalExpense.

    IMPORTANT: If you change a calculation method after plan files have already been created and processed, you must update the existing data so the new method is applied.

    1. Open the BUDYYYY table.

    2. Clear the calc method in the BudSpread and BudCM columns for the affected ACCT codes.

    3. Rebuild and reprocess the plan files. The system assigns to the current KHAStdLine/PhyStdLine (from the ACCT dimension) calculation method.

    Expense tab configuration includes the following tasks:
